![]() It was a lyrical and driven piece of melancholy. McIlrath sang evocatively, pushing his acoustic guitar to the sky. Brash percussion intertwined well with volatile guitar strokes. “Behind Closed Doors” sprang to life as a punk score. “The Approaching Curve” was narrated beautifully, a monologue of unhappiness and smashed resolve. “Prayer And The Refugee” sparked controversy, but it was the song we needed. Well-formed notes and guitar riffs were graciously integrated and the meaning behind it resonated. It was a highlight, a true trademark sound. McIlrath sang with anger spreading through his veins, he sang conveying mistrust and internal pain. “Injection” was a stab in the light, a song with technicalities and lyrical swagger. Lead singer Tim McIlrath also sang with newfound vigor, lashing the world with his political leanings and fists of rage. This disc morphed into something massive, colossal in its armory of songs. Punk has always been a mainstay in Rise Against’s makeup, but with The Sufferer And The Witness they implemented newly drafted sounds and melodic importance. In time, though, the band escalated beyond the brashness and found their way into more subtle terrains. Not only did they entice many fans to the party, but they drew out political blood, and created a landmark sound. Yes, they developed many punk discs prior to the landing, and these records were raw and revealing, truly testing the punk scene. ![]() The band actively promotes animal rights and most of the members are straight edge (excluding Barnes), PETA supporters and vegetarians.Battle-hard and ready for the fight, Rise Against truly grew into a behemoth act when they released their seminal album The Sufferer And The Witness in 2006. Rise Against is also known for their advocacy of progressivism, supporting organizations such as Amnesty International and the It Gets Better Project. The band's two most recent albums, The Black Market (2014) and Wolves (2017) continued the trend of commercial success, and both peaked with the top ten on the Billboard 200. Rise Against's popularity grew with the release of Endgame (2011), which peaked at number two on the Billboard 200, and charted highly worldwide. The album's third single, "Savior", broke the record for the most consecutive weeks spent on both the Hot Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts. With the release of Appeal to Reason (2008), Rise Against's music shifted toward a more accessible and radio-friendly sound, with greater emphasis on production value. The band's next album, The Sufferer & the Witness (2006), peaked at number ten on the Billboard 200 in the United States, and was Rise Against's first album to chart in countries outside of North America. Rise Against's major label debut Siren Song of the Counter Culture (2004) brought the band mainstream success, largely in part to the popularity of the singles "Give It All" and "Swing Life Away". Both the albums were met with underground success, and in 2003 the band signed with the major label Dreamworks, which was absorbed by Geffen. The band spent its first four years signed to the independent record label Fat Wreck Chords, on which they released two studio albums, The Unraveling (2001) and Revolutions per Minute (2003). Lyrically, the band is known for their outspoken social commentary, covering a wide range of topics such as animal rights, economic injustice, environmental disasters, forced displacement, homophobia, modern warfare, and political corruption. Rooted in hardcore punk and melodic hardcore, Rise Against's music emphasizes melody, catchy hooks, aggression in both their sound and playing, and rapid tempos. The group's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe and drummer Brandon Barnes. ![]() I've thought about F1 pinnacle but the windshield option is Air 80 by Llumar (which also makes f1 pinnacle), and Air 80 doesnt have near the heat rejection as photosync or 3m, and also seems to have mixed reviews about its clarity. Most others I've asked (and there are only a few) have also quoted around $1k for whole car.ģM crystalline (next best for heat rejection) best quote I've seen is around $800 for full car + windshield, and $650 for full car without windshield. I think they said $450 for front windshield alone. ![]() Best i've seen for photosync is $599 for all around without windshield, $1050 for all around + windshield. Again, the shop is willing to fix anything I am not satisfied with but I understand that sometimes when I pay for something that I see every day I expect more perfection than is maybe industry acceptable.I'm in the LA area. I was told this was due to the plotter.Īm I being overly picky based on previous tint jobs I have had or is this a reasonable ask for correction? I’m looking for more than just “if you are not happy, take it back in”. This will likely bother me every time I look in the mirror. When I look in my rear view window I see one side has an angled cut and the other has no cut. I was told this was due to the plotter.Ĥ.) the rear window. One side rear window is round the other side rear window is more square. The corner cuts are jagged and it the same from corner to corner. I was told that there are different sizes of glass on each individual window and since sheets are cut from a plotter on a standard size it is not all uniform.ģ). One window is nearly to the edge, while another has a gap. Spaces are very uneven from one side to another. I had a 335 convertible with tint and didn’t have this same issue at all.Ģ). ![]() I was told this was because Teslas do not have window frames and putting tint to the edge could cause issues. I have had other vehicles tinted in the past and I have never seen anything like this.ġ). I want to preface this by saying the shop owner is willing to correct anything I am not fully satisfied with but I want to ask the experts here first if my disappointment or expectations were unreasonable. I have done research, including reading this forum, on choosing a reputable tint shop and after eagerly waiting a week for my appointment I am not completely satisfied with the results. Here's a couple of pics of the photosync 45 and 70 windshield I did not like the appearance of the huper on my car either. The photosync 45 I have for sure blocks a lot more heat than the huper 30% I had. ![]() Actually I think it's pretty similar to the vkool 40 in terms of heat rejection but this tint is too reflective. My "butt dyno" tells me photosync blocks more heat as I barely feel heat on my arm while driving (mid 80's sunny today). As you can see, I've spent quite a bit of $$$ on tint so I wanted to get it right and do it only once for the new car.Īlthough they advertise this tint will go darken a bit under direct sunlight or whatever, I don't see it and it doesn't really matter. Tried formula one pinnacle 35 all around and air blue 80 on windshield. Tried huper optik 30% all around and 60% windshield. On my previous car alone (in no particular order) I've tried vkool 70 all around including windshield, vkool 40 all around and the same vkook 70 on the windshield. I mean yes it does block a lot of heat but it's not all that much than the f1 pinnacle while costing more.Īnyways I finally got this Photosync tint on my new car today and I must say, it's well worth the heavy price I spent on it lol I'm not bias and I've gone through a lot of different brands of tint throughout the years on my previous cars. The lighter shades has a light blue hue to it whereas the 35% shade looks more smoked color. However the transition is not too noticeable but you can definitely feel the heat rejection. For example the 45% shade goes to 35% depending on the sun's intensity. This tint is supposedly photochromic and gets slightly darker as the sun's heat gets more intense, therefore the TSER goes up a few percent. He told me this film performs better than huper optik and vkool which they no longer carry now and it's pretty much the best tint you can get. The guy told me that this film is slowly getting more popular as more people started looking into it. It was sunny and temperature in the 80's, I was sitting in the car and felt no heat on my arms, whereas I felt more heat coming from the windshield which had the llumar air blue tint. Checked out this tint in person and sat in their car with the 35% installed, it's quite amazing. There's only one shop here in So Cal that installs this film. Was going to try it out on my current car but not worth it if I'm not keeping it for long. I've been planning on getting this film installed on my next car end of this year. That same year, Tunnels of Doom used a similar combat system, as did Ultima III: Exodus released in 1983. It used a combat system where, following a random encounter, the game transitioned to a separate, graphical, overhead battle screen, and tactical turn-based combat ensued. This game can also be considered a precursor to the tactical RPG genre. One of the earliest Japanese RPGs, Koei's The Dragon and Princess, was released on NEC's PC-8001 home computer platform in 1982. Buildings, scenery and opposing units can form bottlenecks or " choke points" that players are forced to consider. Tile-based, overhead gameplay of Langrisser II. In between battles, players can access their characters to equip them, change classes, train them, depending on the game. Battles have specific winning conditions, such as defeating all enemies or surviving a certain number of turns, that the player must accomplish before the next map will become available. Characters normally gain experience points from battle and grow stronger, and are awarded secondary experience points which can be used to advance in specific character classes. Players are able to build and train characters to use in battle, utilizing different classes, including warriors and magic users, depending on the game. Instead of exploration, there is an emphasis on battle strategy. Ī distinct difference between tactical RPGs and traditional RPGs is the lack of exploration for instance, Final Fantasy Tactics does away with the third-person exploration of towns and dungeons that is typical in a Final Fantasy game. Unlike traditional RPGs which are traditionally single-player, some tactical RPGs feature multiplayer play, such as Final Fantasy Tactics. It bravely throws its shurikens of ambition but ends up barely hitting anything. Within the Blade constantly reminds me of many other better games. However these comparisons are always to its detriment. It’s a modern retro experience, full of coin collecting and platforming stages, and maybe the best comparison I can make is to Sabotage Studio’s The Messenger. It feels a little like a fast and ultra-violent Shinobi, or maybe even closer to the recent Katana Zero with a little dash of stealth in the mix. ![]() Within The Blade is a 2D side-scrolling ninja slash-em-up with ambitions of stealth. Real Ninja mind, not Fruit Ninja, or Corporate Ninja. Logo and naming gripes aside, if there’s one thing that has me coming back to viddy games time and time again, it’s Ninja. It’s almost impossible to read the word Blade, and the game ends up looking like it’s now called ‘Within The’. A title and logo change hasn’t helped much because that new logo (see above) really does not do what the designers probably wanted. I assume it was changed due to it being cumbersome and too close to that other series called something like, I don’t know, SHINOBI, which has been around since the late eighties, and was also pretty heavily pixelated. ![]() That name is still all over its Steam page. Let’s start with some fun trivia: Within the Blade was previously titled Pixel Shinobi: Nine Demons of Mamoru – bet you didn’t know that. Within The Blade is a 2D ninja slash-em-up for fans of Katana Zero or The Messenger, but it struggles under the weight of comparison. ![]() This definition helps to emphasise that the security of our planet must be guaranteed on an international scale. The members of the panel, which also included experts from Samoa, Ecuador and the US, are hopeful that now is the right time for agreement. The Scottish barrister Polly Higgins led a decade-long campaign for it to be recognised as a crime against humanity before her death in 2019. More recently, ecocide was considered for inclusion in the 1998 Rome statute establishing the ICC before being dropped. “For me the single most important thing about this initiative is that it’s part of that broader process of changing public consciousness, recognising that we are in a relationship with our environment, we are dependent for our wellbeing on the wellbeing of the environment and that we have to use various instruments, political, diplomatic but also legal to achieve the protection of the environment.”Īn ecocide law has been mooted for decades, with the late Swedish prime minister, Olof Palme, pushing the concept at the 1972 UN environmental conference in Stockholm. This one of course does that but it introduces a new non-anthropocentric approach, namely putting the environment at the heart of international law, and so that is original and innovative. The ONC has yet to release proposed regulations on the certification that will be required for products used to comply with meaningful use, Harris said.Prof Philippe Sands QC, of University College London, who co-chaired the panel that spent the past six months hammering out the definition, said: “The four other crimes all focus exclusively on the wellbeing of human beings. Subsequent years will require meaningful use for an entire year, Harris said. The rule has allotted for providers to use electronic health records for 90 continuous days to satisfy the meaningful use requirement in the first year. Providers will work on a Medicare calendar year, beginning Jan. Hospitals will be paid bonuses according to the fiscal calendar year, beginning Oct. Hospitals seeking bonus incentives under the proposed meaningful use regulation must be able to use electronic health records in a prescribed way at a provider level, effectively communicate across the continuum of care and measure what they are doing through a series of metrics, according to Harris. Harris said the government was determined not to set the bar too high at first, while ensuring that the process doesn't stymie IT innovation. "It involves the provider side of an organization as well as vendors." "The challenge is to strike an appropriate balance between all of those goals," Harris said. 30, 2009, is designed to engage patients and families, while ensuring privacy and security, and enable doctors to start thinking about broader public health efforts and the elimination of health disparities. Subsequent Webinars will delve deeper into the meaningful use proposal and explain how they will affect healthcare providers and organizations, Harris said.Īccording to Harris, the meaningful use definition, unveiled on Dec. The Webinar was designed to familiarize viewers with the proposed rule and is the first in a series to be hosted by HIMSS. He's also a member of the HIT Standards Committee, though he said his comments at the Webinar don't represent the committee. Harris is CIO and chairman of the technology division at the Cleveland Clinic, executive director of the e-Cleveland Clinic and chairman-elect of the HIMSS board of directors. Martin Harris, MD, offered an overview of the proposed rule during a Web seminar held Wednesday, but warned his advice isn't meant to replace the need for legal counsel. ![]() Complying with the government's "meaningful use" definition to qualify for federal incentives will require a balancing act between improving patient care and using IT, says an expert from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. While the various outfits and garments are creative in their own way, there are several scenes where things like cloaks would clearly be a hindrance to any actual combat. The series features some decent animation, but the design principle impinges on this to a degree, partly because of the bishounen aspect of the show, but mainly because of the costumes. On the plus side the lack of care with the storyline isn't really reflected in the look of the show, and DenYuuDen has some nice, imaginative scenes that really show what ZEXCS are capable of if they put their backs into it. One has to wonder what moment of "genius" would persuade director Kawasaki Itsuro and series composer Yoshimura Kiyoko to make such a disjointed narrative. Better yet, ZEXCS could have followed the example set by Satelight when they made Guin Saga, and only adapted a portion of the story to ensure there would be a continuous flow to the plot. While there are some anime that get away with summarily stringing together disparate events, it would have been better for everyone if they at least made the effort to stick to the story. The heart of the problem is simply that ZEXCS, like many other studios, have made a screenplay that is nothing more than a "cut and paste" rendition of the original source material. ![]() This is exacerbated by the constant mood swings that occur from one episode to the next, and the addition of seemingly random comedy scenes give the viewer the sense that even the show itself has no idea what's going to happen next. The narrative suffers from a distinct lack of timely explanations, and events can lead the audience on a merry dance as they struggle to keep up with the storyline. Viewers may often find themselves wondering how a particular situation came about, and while there are efforts to tie up certain loose ends, these are nothing more than papering over the cracks. The main issues with Denstsu no Yuusha no Densetsu (DenYuuDen), are the lack of coherency with the story and the constantly changing pace of the plot. This in itself isn't a bad thing though, as these staples are often used to drive home a particular point, or as support for the main storyline.Īnd this anime really does need the support. The pair have been tasked with finding and acquiring the legendary artifacts known as the Relics of Heroes, which lie hidden in various places across the continent of Menoris.Īs with any fantasy tale there's an element of derivation inherent in the plot which results in several very familiar scenarios being played out over the course of the series. Accompanying him on his journey is the warrior and perpetual dango addict Ferris Eris, a woman who may be a genius with a sword, but is pretty clueless with almost everything else (except dango). The story begins with an attack by the Nelphan army on the person of Ryner Lute, a layabout who is on a mission for his trusted friend, boss, and cause of all of his problems, King Sion Astal of Roland. Now aside from mild curiosity at the obvious addiction to using the words "legend" and "hero" in some manner, one has to wonder if the anime adaptation can really live up to the popularity of the franchise. eleven volume light novel series by Kagami Takaya was published in Dragon Magazine from February 2002 until October 2006 and has spawned a sequel (The Legend of the Great Heroes of Legend), and two spin offs (The Legend of the Legendary Heroes Anyway, and The Legend of the Black Fallen Hero), as well as being adapted as a drama CD, a PSP game, a manga, and the recent anime rendition. ![]() It's actually surprising how many people don't know the meaning or usage of the word, but rather than comment on the failure of education systems, let's have a look at how "epic" applies to an anime like Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu (or The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, whatever floats your boat). ![]() Take "epic" for example, and think about all of the occasions where the term has been applied as a colloquialism that simply means "I enjoyed it", "it was very good", or some other sentiment along those lines. These days we often misuse words in ways that sometimes don't make sense.
